Studio Policy

All welcome

We welcome all students regardless of age, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, ability, and religion.

Ground rules

1. Respect yourself

  • Embrace the learning process - honour where you are in your dance journey and recognize that it’s okay to make mistakes. This is part of how we learn and improve! Be gentle with yourself and give yourself credit for working on a new skill. Ask for assistance and feedback if you have questions!
  • Respect your body - if anything practised in class causes pain, listen to your body and rest, and/or ask for a modification or alternative. Take water breaks as needed.
  • Commit to practicing - your mastery of class material is dependent on the commitment you make to practicing outside of class. You and your growth are worth the time it takes.

2. Respect your peers and community

  • Recognize and respect that others may be at a different stage in their learning journey than you. Encourage and support each other's dance journeys.
  • Make accommodations and adjustments to your peers’ physicality/ability, especially if they require modifications to a move.
  • Practice good personal hygiene.
  • Be cognizant of the space you occupy while dancing to avoid collisions; no horseplay.

3. Respect your environment and instructors

  • Arrive to class on time. If you are late, enter the class without disrupting other students.
  • Leave the teaching up to instructors: inform your dance partner if they are causing you any discomfort/pain, but avoid dancefloor coaching.
  • Come to class with a pair of indoor shoes, dance shoes, or clean socks.
  • Leave the studio space as you entered it - clean and free of litter.

Zero tolerance for harassment and inappropriate conduct

We are committed to providing a safe and inclusive learning environment for all, free from harassment and discrimination. We have zero tolerance for any and all instances of misconduct - this includes inappropriate comments, unwanted physical contact or sexual attention, and sustained disruptions to classes. Students/participants engaging in inappropriate behaviour will be asked to stop and are expected to comply immediately. Further action may be taken up to and including expulsion from class without refund, and barring from future registration.

If you experience harassment or inappropriate conduct during class, please alert an instructor immediately.
